Happy New Year!

Good Morning everyone! I hope that your first day of 2012 begins with a clear head and finishes with a clear conscience :-)

For me, this is the beginning of getting my act together!

Firstly, regarding my fructose intake, I was so good for about 16 months, then Christmas 2011 came and I fell heavily off my wagon! I spent about a week eating sugary delights. Not just one or two – a lot! When I went back to not eating sugar, I had three days of migraines. That sucks right?! So – if you’re currently fructose-free, can I please highly recommend that you stay that way, because withdrawal is not pleasant!

I had a lot of health and emotional issues in 2011, but I have a good feeling about 2012. It’s my 20th wedding anniversary in December and I plan on being fit and healthy and fitting into some gorgeous frock by then! So, here are my resolutions for 2012. And please feel free to help me along the way!

  1. Stay fructose free every day
  2. Exercise daily
  3. Resurrect my music career
  4. Control my facebook addiction

So – some biggies there it seems to me! But I can do it. And they are listed in order of priority!

Tell me, what are your goals for 2012? And is anything standing in your way? A problem shared is a problem halved!

Detox Day

Ok – so I confess I have had a shocker couple of days. As a consequence, I have decided to do a bit of detoxing. Many moons ago, I read Dr Joshi’s holistic detox diet. I’m not doing that… But what I have done is mix up the liver cleansing tonic and I’m going to drink herbal teas and sip on the tonic throughout the day. Then I’ll eat dinner tonight (a beef stirfry – no sugar no gluten).

I might even endeavour to start doing this once a week.

I realise not only am I hooked on sugars, but carbohydrates in general are a real problem for me. Which (aside from the lack of exercise) is no doubt the reason I’m still overweight, despite being 99 per cent sugar free for the past 12 months.

And what’s in the liver cleansing tonic you might ask? Well I didn’t look up the recipe again but the gist of it is this:

  • lemons and grapefruit
  • olive oil
  • 1 small clove garlic
  • fresh ginger
  • boiled water

Blend the whole lot in your blender.

I made up a whole blender full – about six lemons (I’m out of grapefruit). Probably about a teaspoon of oil and then fill to the top with boiled water. Make it a pretty small garlic clove! And the more ginger the better as it gives a bit of a zing and covers up the garlic. Today’s batch wasn’t the tastiest as I’m out of grapefruits and didn’t have much fresh ginger. I did add three fresh mint leaves.

Anyway – I had a large glass of the tonic and then two cups of lemon and ginger herbal tea and a glass of water. I’m not in the least bit hungry and I’ll try and stick to it all day until teatime.

The point of it all? To clean out the carbohydrates from yesterday’s overload. And maybe (cross fingers) help break a bad pattern of eating far too much carbohydrate.

Hopefully I’ll feel cleansed by the end of the day!

It’s been a while…

But I’m back!

I am now trying to live a fructose-free, gluten-free, lactose-free life.

I prefer to think of myself as simply free!

I still struggle – a lot!

The sugar thing is easy. Everything else is not! And as I’ve become so sluggish, I’ve gained weight and lost good habits. Here begins my new attempt to get myself in order!

I’m 45 right now. Next year is our 20th Wedding Anniversary. I would like to be much fitter and healthier by then. The first step is to walk out the door and take the first step.

Wish me luck :-)

New Plan…

Nothing is working. I am so frustrated… I don’t eat fructose AT ALL but aside from the initial 2kg loss in September 09, virtually nothing much has changed.

My appetite has halved. I’m eating half as much as before. And my weight is totally stable.

I am having problems with irritable bowel syndrome and I feel as though everything about me is sluggish. I’m going to work on that and see if things improve.

The new plan:

1. I will keep a food diary and post it only at the end of the week. Let’s face it – other people’s food diaries are astonishingly boring!

2. I will exercise EVERY day. Either walk for an hour or use the Wii fit board for an hour (it’s raining and cold today…)

3. I will drink more water. A lot more. Hang on a sec… I need a glass of water…

4. Less coffee and less cheese and crackers. (Duh … )

5. I’m going to count and limit points again. I’m going to try anyway! 20 points per day…

6. I’ll continue gluten free for four more weeks to see if there’s any difference, but I’m not optimistic at this point.

7. I will never reintroduce fructose to my diet again. Despite weight-loss failure, the benefits are so worth it and I honestly don’t miss it.

That’s it!

Hopefully I’ll start writing more interesting things rather than stupid boring food diaries every day!
